Welcome to Year 2
Like Year 1, we have such a large learning environment. There are two well resourced classrooms, a small learning room, a large area shared by both classes and toilets.
Now the children are the oldest in Key Stage 1 and are working towards their SATs (Statutory Assessment Tests) which are taken in May by all children. The children are prepared for these throughout the year by all the adults in the year group.
Our Current Topics
Autumn - Amazing Africa
The children will 'fly' to Africa at the start of their topic, during which they will compare two countries, Kenya and England. The children will identify the different continents and oceans and find out which continents these counties are in. They will also learn about life in Kenya and think about how it is similar or different to life in England. They will also compare things like homes, food and school. The topic will finish with a school trip to Drusilla's where the children will learn about the famous Maasai tribe.
Spring - Fire and Water
During the first half term, the Children learn about the main events of the Great Fire of London, what life was like in London at that time and the reasons we know so much about it. In the second half term, the children will learn about Admiral Nelson and the Battle of Trafalgar. During their school trip to Portsmouth historic docs, they will get to explore his ship and learn what life was like in the navy at that time.
Summer - Outdoor Explorers
The children have already learnt a bit about the continents and oceans, now it is time for them to look close to home and find out about our local area. They will look at maps and aerial photos of the local area as well as learn about the local wildlife and how Bevendean has changed over the years. They will also explore the local area and look at what is around them.
